Wait A Sec wins 2018 Tui-Backing Winners Anniv. Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Trentham (NZ), 1600m.

The judge took some time before making his call with Wait A Sec, winner two starts back of the Livamol Classic (Gr.1, 2040m) in October, who has now won 12 races and $371,520. He settled midfield (rails) but moved up to sixth past the 600m before easing wider to be in behind them turning in.

Jockey Jason Waddell found the split at the 400m and went after the leaders, wound up past the 150m, levelled up to co-lead then thrust his head out just before the post to win by a nose.

Midfield to the straight Asama Blue pulled out of the pack at the 400m and kept up a very strong run to the line only to lose in a head bobber.

Handy to the straight, Travimyfriend surged to the front inside the 300m and looked the winner but was swamped late to be just a short head away in third. Beefeater held on for fourth on the inner
