The Japanese-bred import Tosen Stardom who was having his fourth run this preparation and his seventh start for the Darren Weir stable, broke through for his first Group One win, staging a good effort in doing so, here. He settled back in 14th place from his wide barrier (16) behind a strong pace (first 1000m in 59.76), improved (wide with cover) from the 600m, went widest of all at the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to win impressively under his top weight (57.5kg).

Sovereign Nation raced in third last place in the 18-horse field, improved (between runners) at the home turn, switched out at the 200m and then ran on nicely for second.

The $101 outsider Petrology also settled back in the field. He was second last at the home turn, went very deep on straightening and ran on surprising well to take the minor placing.

The Hugo Palmer-trained Mask Of Time was a handy fourth on the rails, from his good barrier (one) and kept fighting on in the straight to hold (2.2 lengths) fourth in a sound Australian debut.
