Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 6th & 8th of October

Poseidon has bounced back to form with a terrific win in the Racing Guide Classic over 1400m at Kranji on Sunday.

Not quite measuring up the start prior when well held behind Countofmontecristo in the Group 3 Jumbo Jet Trophy, Poseidon was much improved this time out and ran to a clear new career peak figure.

Settling off the leaders in third for much of the race, the Cliff Brown-trained runner took over proceedings in the early part of the straight and kicked away to claim a one and a quarter length win over Lim’s Samurai in second with Best Tothelign well back in third.

Poseidon has now won an impressive seven races over the 1400m trip and was certainly much more effective settling on the speed today after settling further back his previous couple.

Cliff Brown indicated post race that the six-year-old gelding may well head to the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy on November 10 and the rating he produced in the Racing Guide certainly brings him into contention.

The resuming Lim’s Samurai who was last seen when runner up to Infantry in the Group 1 Singapore Derby (2000m) made good ground in the straight but was unable to reel in Poseidon.

Lim’s Samurai who returned a rating well below his previous best will certainly improve throughout the preparation as he goes up in trip and would have lost no admirers with his returning effort.

The following race saw Super Fortune return to the winners circle in the Class 3 over 1200m with a one length win over Dinghu Mountain in second with Bao Shan Magic third.

In what was a very competitive race, Super Fortune settled off the leaders in fourth before moving into second on the turn and proving too strong over the concluding stages.

Having now won four of his 10 starts, Super Fortune returned a new career peak rating with his win on the weekend and is certainly making his way through the grades nicely.

The former Australian runner has now won three from four in Singapore, having no luck when third on the other occasion.

The next three are all worth following as well with Dinghu Mountain in second running slightly above his previous two outings in handy company with Bao Shan Magic in third running better than his two previous wins.

Friday night saw Filibuster step out on debut with a terrific win in the Restricted Maiden over 1100m on the Polytrack.

Off strong trial form, the Cliff Brown-trained runner was taken straight to the lead by Manoel Nunes and never looked like getting beat, running out a three and a half length winner over Destroyer Eclipse.

Filibuster returned a strong debut rating of 80p and with more improvement to come certainly looks one to follow going forward.
