Bostonian wins 2017 El Roca-Sir Colin Meads Trophy Listed NZ$50,000 at Hastings (NZ), 1200m.
Among a field of some sharp three-year-olds, Bostonian maintained his unbeaten record, now three wins from three starts, with a hard-fought win here. Under Leith Innes from barrier three, he began as well as any but Innes allowed him to ease into fourth then fifth, one off the fence at the 700m. Before straightening, they found room three out and into the straight had a clear view. Innes waited, balanced then drove the colt up to challenge but didn't collar the leader until inside the 50 metres, nabbing the decision right on the line in a headbobber.
I Got You lay second around the bend and into the straight, took over narrowly at the 150m and fought hard to the line for a solid second.
A top run from Irish Flame who was last at the 700m and turning in, weaved between runners and finished well for a close-up third from Getty, who led to the turn, got clear at the 250m but found nothing to the line, barely holding fourth.
