Underthemoonlight wins 2017 Tauranga Classic Listed NZ$50,000 at Tauranga (NZ) Fillies & Mares, 1400m.
After several recent close up efforts, honest and consistent Underthemoonlight was rewarded, running right away over the last 150m to win easily. Rider Cameron Lammas had her quickly away from barrier five then settled midfield, one off the fence. Lammas pushed forward at the 600m, camped on the leader's outer then ranged up and took over as they straightened. From the 300m she led narrowly but inside the 150m began to draw clear, running away by three and a half lengths.
Favourite New York Minute led to the turn, fought the winner for 150m but simply could not keep up yet finished four and a quarter lengths clear of Meursault, who was third last at the 600m, pulled wider upon straightening and ran on to grab third late.
Galaxy Miss was handy enough turning in and plugged away for fourth.
