Prom Queen wins 2017 Champagne Stakes Listed NZ$50,000 at Riccarton Park (NZ), 1200m.

Prom Queen jumped from barrier four under Alysha Collett, sprang to the front and immediately headed for the rails to lead narrowly but comfortably. Collett cuddled her up over the crossing and into the straight then asked for a little more at the 300m and she responded well, drawing clear and running away from them at the post by an easy five lengths - an impressive win - her fifth (all here at Riccarton Park) in six starts.

Cousteau shadowed the winner from the outset, made a brief challenge at the 300m but could not keep up yet battled well to hold a clear second from Kiwi Ida, who was fourth (rails) into the straight and ran on for a distant third.

Finbarr finished well late for fourth after being last early.
