Morphettville Races Review -6th May 2017

Exciting galloper Royal Rumble made it a hat trick of wins when he took out the 1600 metre opening event at Morphettville on Saturday.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas Royal Rumble, with Clare Lindop in the saddle, came from last with a strong run over the concluding stages to take the event.

Hoop Damien Oliver got on the board early when Second Bullet took out the 2010 metre second race.

Coming out of the Flemington stable of Danny O’Brien Second Bullet worked himself into the race from a midfield position and went to the line with plenty in hand.

Master trainer Darren Weir brought up his sixteenth win for the week when Indian Thunder took out the 1050 metre third race.

Piloted to his first win at start number two the Damian Lane ridden Indian thunder came from a midfield position with a strong run over the last few metres.

A pick-up ride at the expense of Jake Toeroek saw Noel Callow join forces with Richard Jolly in the all the way win of Karacatis in the 1100 metre Group 3 D C McKay Stakes.

Bringing up her third win after a nineteen month lay-off Amelie’s Star gave master trainer Darren Weir his second win for the day in the 1600 metre Group 2 Queen of the South Stakes.

Giving her rider Damian Lane a double Amelie’s Star gradually improved from a rearward position and may now head to Brisbane for some feature races during the Queensland winter carnival.

Starting his career as an apprentice at Streaky Bay before competing on the world stage Kerrin McEvoy won his first Schweppes Oaks when he rode Egg Tart to a win in the Group 1 event.

Bringing up her fifth straight win the Chris Waller prepared Egg Tart settled in the back half of the field before unleashing a powerful run in the straight to take the coveted event in the last stride.

Champion jockey Damien Oliver scored his second winner for the day when Secret Agenda took out the Group 1 UBET Classic which was run over 1200 metres.

Prepared at Caulfield by Mick Price, Secret Agenda led all the way.

Starting his career in Adelaide Noel Callow brought up his second winner for the day when he steered Sweet Sherry to a narrow win in the Group 2 UBET Euclase Stakes of 1200 metres.

Being under the care of Sutton Grange trainer Bret Stanley Sweet Sherry came from a better than midfield position with a strong run over the concluding stages
