Defcon wins 2016 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo, 1200m.

Defcon scored a very good first-up win. He was a bit slow to move before settling in seventh place on the rails from his good barrier (3), behind a good pace. He got through to be just behind the leaders on straightening, continued along the rails to take the lead nearing the 100m and then went on to score well.

The favourite Highland Beat had a good trip in fourth place on the rails, angled into clear running on straightening, hit the front at the 200m and fought gamely for a good second, albeit after having every chance.

Wazzenme settled back in ninth place, before improving (deep) from the 600m. He fanned deep at the home turn and came with a good run for third, putting up a smart effort.
