First Among Equals wins 2016 Belmont Newmarket Listed $100,000 at Belmont Park (WA) 3yo+, 1200m.

First Among Equals followed his good first-up win in the Bolton Sprint (Listed, 1200m) at this track on 30 July to score another good stakes win here. He settled in fifth place, one off the rails, behind a steady pace (first 600m 36.83). He improved well (deep) rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and went on to score with something in hand in a smart performance.

Rock Magic was a handy third, moved up in good style at the 200m and then kept fighting on well for a good second, finding the winner a bit too good.

Checkpoint raced in second place, was under pressure at the 300m but kept fighting on to hold the minor placing while Travinator led the field until half-way down the straight and then held on for fourth.
