Nevis wins 2016 Bet365 Golden Mile Listed $150,000 at Bendigo (VIC), 1600m.

Nevis was away well from barrier two and quickly took up the pace and kept up a solid tempo down the back and around the corner. Into the home straight he raced four or five widths off the fence for better going and kicked clear at the 400m. At the 200m he was still clear but the margin had narrowed yet he kept going to just hold out the late lunge by Big Memory at the post.

Big Memory sat second around the turn and into the straight, gradually got to the winner’s flanks at the 100m and made a late lunge to lose narrowly at the line.

Survived lay fourth (rails) around the bend and improved into third as they straightened. He tried to get to the first two but battled on to hold third.
