Consensus wins 2015 Sofitel Luxury Hotels Stakes Group 3 NZ$70,000 at Ellerslie (NZ), 2000m.
Consensus got away well from barrier five then dropped back to third, six lengths off the pace, on the rails heading into the back straight. She tracked up closer to the pace at the 1000m and prior to straightening jockey Alysha Collett moved off the rails. Into the straight she took a couple of strides to balance but passing the 200m the mare was out in the middle of the track and ground away to level up just short of the post. She then stuck her nose out at the right time for a narrow but determined win.
Spoke To Carlo tracked Vavasour into the straight and went by early in the run home but bumped Vavasour a hundred metres out, fighting really well the length of the straight in a battling (promoted) second place.
Soriano was last down the back and turning in, saving much ground, and made a strong rails run only to be blocked by Vavasour’s change in ground for an unlucky run. In the enquiry room she was promoted to third.
Vavasour sat a length back outside the leader until the straight and challenged first only to be passed by Spoke To Carlo then switched to the rails, hampering Soriano in the process and subsequently relegated from second to fourth in the enquiry room.
