Smokin’ Joey 2015 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stks Listed $175,000 at Ipswich (QLD), 1350m.

Smokin' Joey overcame a wide trip to win well. He settled in sixth place but trapped three wide without cover. He moved up well (deep) at the 600m to challenge nearing the home turn, got to the front at the 75m and then went on for a good win.

Daph 'N' Alf showed his usual pace and raced outside the leader (Tokamak) going to the front on turning for home. He then fought gamely when challenged, holding on well for a good second.

Three-year-old colt Ulmann did not show much early pace and settled in seventh place on the rails but was shuffled back to second last nearing the home turn. He eased deep at the 200m and then ran on well for a good late-closing third, looking most unlucky.

Riva De Lago was eased from barrier nine and raced in second last place in the ten-horse field before improving (wide out) from the 600m. He got to third at the 100m and kept fighting well to take the minor placing, putting up a sound effort after travelling deep over the latter stages.

Pillar Of Creation was eighth, between runners, was urged to improve rounding the home turn and battled on quite well in the straight for fifth, beaten two lengths.
