Talented three-year-old Jimmy Rea confirmed himself as one of the leading contenders in the Group 1 Singapore Guineas, when demoralising his rivals on Friday night.

Lining up for just his seventh career start, the son of Thewayyouare has continued to the raise the bar and impress with his trademark slick closing sectionals.

Facing arguably his toughest test, Jimmy Rea passed with flying colours, saluting by two-and-a-half lengths in the Kranji Stakes B event.

Ridden by regular rider Manoel Nunes, Jimmy Rea settled beautifully one out — just beyond midfield.

Pulled the widest runner on straightening, Jimmy Rea always looked the winner and put the race away in a few strides, hitting the front inside the 300m.

Drawing three lengths clear passing the 200m, Jimmy Rea was eased down over the concluding stages, with a wall fighting out the minor placings.

Earmarked early doors as a very promising galloper, Jimmy Rea has since confirmed these claims and recorded a new career peak on Friday night.

Jimmy Rea improved 10 pounds on his previous best and returned a figure which places him alongside fellow Guineas contender Affleck.

The latter has been beaten in both starts to begin this preparation, but is expected to be right at his peak for the Group 1 contest.

The main query with Jimmy Rea is whether he can run a strong mile, given his only defeat this year came over 1400m [CECF Singapore Prestige Classic].

Though in hindsight there is no knock on the form behind Kiwi Karma, given the latter was only narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Lion City Cup last start.

Jimmy Rea was marked just a fraction outside standard on Friday night and recorded 11.04 second 200m sections for his last 800m (average).

Notably, on adjusted times he recorded virtually the same time as what he produced for his last 800m last start, only this time he carried 5.5kg more.

On raw Timeform ratings he appears more than capable of defeating Affleck, however at a mile, we have a slight lean towards Affleck given he is proven at the trip.

Conversely, if the race was to be held over 1200m, we are confident Jimmy Rea would have Affleck's measure.

In what is shaping as one of the more competitive Guineas in recent memory, both A La Victory and Chase also did their claims no harm, with both performing well in the tenth event on Friday night.

Fastnet Dragon

The Leslie Khoo trained Fastnet Dragon is another galloper who impressed on Friday night, when bringing up back-to-back wins in the sixth event.

In just his fourth career start, the son of Fastnet Rock followed up his dominant maiden win two back, with another impressive performance.

Ridden by Alan Munro, Fastnet Dragon was forced to sit three-wide throughout, after unable to slot in from the wide draw.

Pushed forward passing the 800m to challenge for the lead, Fastnet Dragon travelled strongly entering the straight and let down powerfully passing the 300m.

Appearing somewhat under threat inside the 200m, Fastnet Dragon pulled out plenty, drawing away to score by over two lengths.

Fastnet Dragon improved five pounds on his maiden win and can be followed with confidence, as there looks to be more in store.

Jimmy Rea is the only galloper who comparatively recorded a faster time and if you take him out, Fastnet Dragon was marked close to four lengths superior to his rivals.

Fastnet Dragon gives the impression he will be better over further and if placed in similar company at his next start, he appears more than capable of bringing up the hat-trick.

Super One

On Sunday, two-year-old Super One stole the show, when placing a mortgage over the Group 2 Golden Horseshoe.

Having turned heads on debut, the son of I Am Invincible was at it again, when saluting easily in the fifth event.

Leading throughout, Super One was throttled down over the concluding stages, but still saluted by over two lengths.

On raw times, he was comparatively the second fastest of the day and barring the performance of Precious Gem, he was marked two lengths superior to the rest of his rivals.

Super One improved four pounds on his debut victory and returned a figure easily good enough to win the Golden Horseshoe.

In comparison his performance has him marked slightly ahead of Kiwi Karma, Affleck and Mr Big at the same point in their careers.

He remains clearly the horse to beat in Golden Horseshoe on May 15 and appears well on his way to be one of the highest rated winners of the event in recent years.
