Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 20th and 22nd of March

The Leslie Khoo trained Star General was one of the stand-out performances on the weekend, when justifying his short quote in the second event on Friday night.

Stepping out for just his third career start, the son of Mint Lane displayed good improvement, when proving too strong for his rivals.

Jumping away well on the inside, Star General travelled well in third, before peeling off the fence on straightening.

Swinging three-wide, Star General let down powerfully, reeling in race leader Sun Pioneer inside the 200m, drawing away to score by two lengths.

Having displayed good progression with each career start, Star General improved 10 pounds and recorded a new Timeform master rating.

Comparatively the three-year recorded the second quickest time of the night and returned a time figure ahead of the bare form.

More notably outside the top three placings, there was a further five-and-a-half lengths back to fourth, further pushing the strength of the performance.

Although Star General was safely held at his only prior attempt at 1200m, the form through Time Odyssey appears strong, and he gives the impression he will appreciate a step up in trip.

Given his soft victory, he is likely to improve between four and five pounds at his next outing and can be followed with confidence.

Out of the same event, the Desmond Koh trained Sun Pioneer should also be followed closely.

Formerly trained in Australia under the care of Jason Warren, the son of Nadeem impressed in his Singapore debut and should derive good improvement.

Forced to work and cross from the wide draw, Sun Pioneer was left vulnerable late in the piece, however he still stuck on well to hold on to second place.

Installed a 40-1 chance on that occasion, he will no doubt start shorter if placed in similar company at his next start and is expected to make his presence felt.

On his sole performance in his Australia, he has a fair bit of improvement up his sleeve and isn't likely to be a maiden for much longer.

Von Krumm

Former New Zealand based galloper Von Krumm really impressed on debut for the Shane Baertschiger stable, when saluting narrowly in the final event on Sunday.

Unseen in over a year, the son of Snitzel justified his solid support when proving too strong, leading throughout over the 1200m journey.

Drawn wide, Von Krumm flew the gates under Matthew Kellady to take up the running, setting a good solid tempo.

Under a good hold inside the 300m, Von Krumm kicked a length clear before just tiring over the concluding stages.

Still managing to stick on strongly to hold off his rivals, the four-year-old brought up his third victory from nine career starts.

Formerly trained by Chris McNabb, Von Krumm displayed good ability, with his only blemish coming behind Bounding in Group 3 company.

On Timeform ratings, Von Krumm still has good improvement up his sleeve and remains an interesting galloper moving forward.

The fact he was also able to win off over a year break, gives more merit to his victory as he should derive good benefit from the hit-out.

Although only a length and a half separated the first four across the line in the tenth event, it appears a very strong form race moving forward.

The winner Blue Swede was back to his career best and looks to be finally living up to his early promise.

The second placegetter Fraajilistic continued his good run of form and both Ideal Guide and Rusty Brown hold the race together nicely.

It was one of few races on the card which returned a time figure ahead of the bare form and we expect it will produce a few subsequent winners in the near future.

The Michael Clements trained Ride Of Valkyries failed to fire in the event, however we wouldn't be jumping off just yet — expect her to display sharp improvement third up, over a mile and beyond.
