Benzini wins 2015 Marks Ewen & Assoc Kaimai Stks Listed NZ$50,000 at Matamata (NZ), 2000m.
Easy through the early stages from the outside barrier (12), last start winner Benzini was assisted from his rearward position when the tempo increased at the 1000m. Gambling on an inside run, Benzini speared through two off the rail at the 200m and had the momentum to take a handy advantage to the post.
After trailing, Classcoroc put in a strong run near the rail to finish second.
Surpass was outside the leader until gaining cover at the 1000m and kept up a determined effort for third.
Silverdale circled from the rear at the 600m, to be flushed very wide into the straight and kept up a solid finish for fourth.
The pacemaker, Arizona Jazz, was taken on from the 1000m, fought back to lead at the 300m, and did well to hold on for fifth.
