Fireworks wins 2015 Widden Stakes Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 2yoFillies, 1100m.
Fireworks began quite well on this occasion before easing to settle in seventh place. She improved (wide with cover) at the 600m, switched out at the 300m and came with a strong late run to grab a narrow but impressive win. She looks a smart filly who should appreciate further.
Lake Geneva raced in about fourth spot (trapped wide) and then moved up well at the home turn. She challenged strongly at the 200m and fought on gamely for a close second, putting up a very good effort on debut.
Igraine had a good trip in third place on the rails. She got clear to challenge at the 300m and kept fighting on for a close-up third.
Micucci was eased from barrier seven and settled at the tail of the nine-horse field and remained there to the home turn. She got a split on straightening and continued to make good ground for a most encouraging and closeup fourth. She should appreciate stepping up in distance.
Tempt Me Not went back at the start and was second last in the nine-horse field to the home turn. She fanned deep on straightening and kept running on well in the centre of the track to finish a good (1.2 lengths) fifth, putting up a nice effort.
The favourite Giulietta went to the front, travelled well and drew clear nearing the 300m. But she tired shortly afterwards, then holding on for (1.6 lengths) sixth after seeming to have every chance.
