Maritimo wins 2014 Wellesley Stakes Listed NZ$50,000 at Trentham (NZ) 2yo, 1000m.

Being used from the outside gate to work across and lead, Maritimo led a good pace over the crossing to the course proper at the 500m. Maritimo began putting a space in her rivals passing the 200m and careered away to win very impressively.

From behind Maritimo, Platinum Express moved to a clear second at the 300m and fought solidly to hold her position.

From fifth on the inner at the 600m, Battle Plan balanced up to chase at the 300m and showed good stretch getting into third and just overhaul O’Dianne, fourth, who raced on the rail to the inside of Maritimo, collided with the rail at the 400m, and kept going solidly for fourth.

Fifth placed Hocus Pocus sustained a good finish, widest in the straight, from back in the field.
