Foreteller wins 2014 Hyland Underwood Stakes Group 1 $400,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo+, 1800m.
Foreteller raced a little closer than anticipated, Glen Boss settling him fifth on the rails from his good barrier (2). He moved through to third at the 250m and kept running on gamely to score a last stride win, putting up a smart effort. It was also an excellent ride by Boss.
Happy Trails travelled along well in seventh place on the rails, behind a slow early pace (first 1200m 1:15.59). He improved nicely between runners at the turn, challenged at the 100m and then fought on particularly well for a very close second, putting up a smart effort at his third run this preparation.
The lightly raced import Crackerjack King indicated a return to form with a bold front-running effort. He led clearly, with Michael Walker electing to remain wide on the track most of the way. He led into the straight, in the centre of the course, and then fought on gamely for a very good third, beaten one length.
Lidari was a distant second, chasing the leader Crackerjack King, most of the way to the turn and then fought on in the straight for fourth, beaten two lengths.
The favourite Silent Achiever was back in sixth place, moved up wide out at the home turn and ran
on fairly well for (2.1 lengths) fifth.Super Cool was last to the turn and kept making ground in the straight for a most encouraging (2.4 lengths) sixth.
The second favourite Stipulate tracked the multiple Group One winner Silent Achiever racing back about ninth and kept running on quite well in the sprint home for (2.7 lengths) seventh.
Star Rolling battled on fairly well for eighth while The Offer made ground, wide out in the sprint home for (3.2 lengths) ninth putting up a sound effort under the circumstances.
