Flamberge returned from a break with a strong win in the Group 3 Theshark.com.au Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Flamberge, having his first run since winning the Star Kingdom Quality (Gr 3, 1200m) at Rosehill in April, enjoyed a nice trip from his good barrier, racing in fourth place on the rails, following a good tempo.
He went through to second on straightening, got to the lead at the 100m and went on to win well by a length and a half after enjoying a perfect trip.
Rifleman was ridden quietly by Nick Hall and was eased to settle past midfield, racing between runners.
He remained there to the 600m, switched across heels on turning for home and put in a strong finish from the 200m.
He got to fourth at the 100m and kept coming for a solid second, putting up a nice effort.
Hard Stride showed his customary pace, led the field until headed at the 100m and then held on for a sound third.
The favourite Vain Queen began reasonably well but was crowded shortly after the start and lost her position being shuffled back to near last shortly afterwards.
She looked for a run in the centre on turning for home, switched across heels at the 200m but then ran into traffic again and went to the post in fourth place, beaten three lengths, without being fully tested after a difficult trip.
