Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas, June 28 - Sunshine Coast

A patient Damien Browne ride from a wide barrier saw Hopfgarten home in the Sunshine Coast Guineas.

Hopfgarten was ridden patiently by Damian Browne from his wide barrier (15) and settled 15th in the large 18-horse field.

He was giving the leader about 12 lengths on passing the 800m but was travelling well, being suited by a solid tempo (first 1000m 59.50).

He improved (very deep) from the 600m, put in a quick run at the 350m, hit the lead at the 100m and went on to score in good style

Miss Husson raced in 12th place on the rails, angled for an inside run on straightening, got along the rails from the 200m and briefly hit the lead shortly afterwards.

She then fought on very well for second, finding the winner a bit too strong.

Fast Arrow went back from his wide barrier (14) and raced in 14th place, between runners. He was held up for a run at the turn, got a split at the 300m and ran on quite well along the rails to take third.

Bodega Negra ran on well, wide out, from 12th at the turn for fourth, beaten three and a quarter lengths

The favourite Architect settled in last place from his difficult barrier (16), went extremely wide nearing the home turn but disappointed in the straight finishing (7.2 lengths) 14th while the second favourite Palmera Lad was near last in the large field, got through on the inside on turning for home but ran on only fairly well to finish (4.9 lengths) seventh.
