Cameo ($21) improved on her three unplaced runs so far this preparation to score a surprise win.

She settled in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1). She was travelling well nearing the turn and Sam Clipperton steered her along the rails to be second on straightening. She took the lead at the 200m and then fought back well when challenged to win by a length.

Full Of Spirit enjoyed a good trip, sixth one off the rails. She moved up (deep) rounding the home turn and looked a threat, getting to second at the 200m. She then battled on to hold that position to the post, beaten one length.

Loaded was midfield one off the rails before going wide at the home turn. He then kept running on quite well to take third, beaten two and a quarter lengths.

Prince Cheri raced in ninth place on the rails, angled into the clear on turning for home and battled on for (2.8 lengths) fourth, after seeming to have every chance.

Destiny’s Kiss was near last in the 14-horse field to the home turn. He got a run in the centre on straightening, switched wide at the 300m and ran on fairly well for (3.5 lengths) fifth.

The favourite Mecir had a good run, fourth one out and one back, before putting in a short-lived run at the home turn. He was soon under pressure on straightening and dropped out to finish (13 lengths) last. He displayed a poor post-race recovery and co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said that Mecir would now be spelled.
