Anlon rattled home late on to deny Limes in the Chester Manifold at Flemington.
Anlon ($3.50 favourite) settled in a good spot, sixth one off the rails, travelling nicely.
He was giving the leader about six lengths as he switched out shortly after straightening. He went to the centre of the track from the 300m, showed a good turn of foot to challenge at the 100m and then battled well to score in a close finish.
The joint favourite Limes ($3.50) was given a perfect trip by Steven Arnold in third place to the home turn. The Darley-raced four-year-old then moved up well nearing the 300m, took the lead at the 200m and fought back when challenged to fail by the narrowest of margins to finish second.
The mare Gig ($19) was seventh on the rails to the home turn, improved to fifth at the 300m and kept running on to take third, beaten just over a length.
Chase The Rainbow ($15) was second last in the ten-horse field to the turn and came with a late run to finish (length and half) fourth.
Kneeling was second to the turn and held on fairly well for fifth while The Peak ($4.20) was a handy fourth to the 300m and seemed to have every chance before finishing (three lengths) sixth.
