Crumpet O'Reilly produced a huge run from the back to finish narrowly clear in the St Ledger.
The favourite Crumpet O’Reilly ($2.40) was second last in the nine-horse field in the early stages. He worked up three deep without cover, due to the moderate early tempo and took the lead at the 1400m point.
He had several challengers rounding the home turn, but he stuck gamely to his task, putting up a nice staying effort to score by a long neck, his fifth win in succession.
Fancy Feet travelled along comfortably in sixth place one off the rails, following a moderate pace. She improved wide with cover from the 700m, fanned wider at the bend and continued to make ground in the sprint home for a good second.
Looking Ahead was seventh on the rails, switched between runners rounding the home turn and put in a good run to challenge at the 200m. She then kept fighting on well for a close-up third.
The Fred Kersley-trained Northpace was near last to the turn and made good ground late for a sound fourth, beaten just under a length, being disadvantaged to the slow early pace.
