Group 2 Momentum Energy Stakes, November 9 - Flemington

Girl Gone Rockin' held out Queenstown by the narrowest of margins to win the Momentum Energy Stakes.

Five-year-old mare Girl Gone Rockin’ scored a narrow but good win, her fourth win from 14 starts to date.

She settled in eighth place one off the rails but was held up between runners on turning for home. She switched into the clear at the 400m, where she was giving the leader about six lengths, and came with a strong late run to grab a photo-finish win in the last few strides.

Queenstown enjoyed a good trip in third place to the turn. She moved up nicely in the straight, looked the winner when she got to a narrow lead passing the 200m, only to be caught on the post for second.

Keep De Rose had an ideal run in second place behind the leader. She challenged at the 400m and went to the front at the 200m before fighting on for a sound half length third.

Epingle was about tenth to the 800m, moved up well wide out from the 600m and kept battling on strongly for a good fourth while the Kazanluk was a late-closing fifth.

The favourite Lake Sententia ($3.80) finished seventh and was subsequently reported as having bled.
