Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes, October 19 - Caulfield

Polanski tuned up for the Derby with a win in the Norman Robinson.

The Robbie Laing-trained Polanski put in a strong claim for the Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) on 2 November with a narrow but impressive win, running the 2000m out very well.

He settled fourth, one out and one back, moved up nicely rounding the home turn, challenged strongly at the 200m and fought on win by a head, appearing to win with something in hand.

San Diego worked across from his outside barrier (13) to lead and then established a good tempo (first 1400m 1:26.40). He fought back gamely when challenged, failing by only a head at the post for a sound second after his early efforts.

Epic Saga raced outside the leader to the turn and held on fairly well in the straight to take the minor placing, just over four lengths from the winner.

Honey Steel’s Gold led early before settling in third place on the rails and he held that position until half way down the straight before tiring in the latter stages for fourth.

The maiden Bring Something, having only his fourth start, was near last on the rails, got an inside run from the 600m and kept battling on quite well for a sound fifth.

It was quite a good effort considering he was racing in a Group Three event.
