Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup, October 16 - Murray Bridge

Pelicano overcame a wide gate to grab a super impressive Murray Bridge Gold Cup win.

The Tony McEvoy-trained Pelicano proved too good here, winning comfortably despite his top weight [59kgs] and his outside barrier [16].

He was eased at the start and settled third last, three wide with cover, following a moderate pace [first 1000m 61.47]. He was under riding from the 600m when the tempo increased, went very wide at the home turn and hit the lead at the 200m before scoring a good win.

Lady Dynamo was just past midfield on the rails, got an inside from the 600m but was held up until clear at the 200m and then ran on without threatening for a sound second.

Little Akie was near last to the 600m, went wide at the turn and kept plugging on quite well for third. Starkiato ($4.40 fav), a winner of his previous three starts, was seventh on the rails most of the way to the turn. He was blocked in the straight then battled on fairly well for fourth, when clear late.
