Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes, October 12 - Caulfield

British General fought back gamely on the rail to edge out Bello in the Weekend Hussler Stakes at Caulfield.

British General began well from his wide barrier (9) in the ten-horse field and went straight to the lead.

He then set an average pace (first 800m 48.69) before picking up the tempo from the 600m. He looked beaten when headed passing the 200m but he came again, fighting on in his typical fashion to score a game short head win.

Bello raced outside the leader, looked the winner when he took a narrow advantage in the straight but was outgamed in the closing stages for a close second.

Floria raced in seventh place between runners to the 600m. She got a nice split on turning for home, got to fourth at the 150m and battled on for a close-up third.

The favourite Richie’s Vibe enjoyed a good trip fifth on the rails but was blocked at the turn. Dwayne Dunn eased him across heels at the 200m and he seemed to have every chance from there before finishing fourth.
