With some competitive fields and quality races it could be worth steering away from the favourites and looking for value at Doomben on Saturday.
One of those is progressive filly Jami Lady in the TAB Class 6 over 1200m.
The three-year-old is taking on older sprinters but is on the up having placed at her past two outings, the latest when beaten just over two lengths at this course and distance.
There she finished behind two high class males, Zoustyle and Plague Stone , both of whom are favoured to win bigger races this winter.
Jami Lady returned an impressive rating in that race, one that would hold her in good stead if she can reproduce that performance.
The filly has done her best work at 1200m and Ron Stewart should be able to secure the run of the race from a good draw.
Talented sprinter Niccanova could be a big improver at each way odds in the Innovative Hire Spear Chief over 1350m.
The five year-old ran into all sorts of trouble first up when held up at the turn and again at the 200m so there was merit in his performance to make ground and finish just over 3L away in the BRC Sprint.
He races well at Doomben and has won four of seven attempts at this distance range including a Listed Recognition Stakes success last campaign.
Niccanova has yet to miss a place second up and although drawn a bit wide he can be right in the finish with a touch more luck on his side.
