On the back of a big week at the Bool racing returns to Flemington this Saturday for a winter-shaping card of competitive handicaps.

The second race on the card is a deep contest over the mile. It's deep with horses that are in-form but one stands out off a terrific last start performance that has us stamping him as our bet of the day.

That horse is Dr Drill who came across from the UK with a strong ratings profile over longer trips. A good end-to-end gallop no doubt played to his stamina first up  but it was still a very sharp effort at just 1440m and there was plenty of merit circling around the bend as he did given the way the race was run. The leader/winner was extremely well ridden and to make ground into the teeth of a gallop like that when turning wide is no easy task at Caulfield.

He will likely see a different shape over the mile at Flemington but he has clearly settled into Australia well and there's good things in store for him given that.

Our each way play is another import, this time in the seventh race on the card, a handicap over 2600m.

Here Belgravia looks worth keeping on side at around $31 coming off a couple of races where things have not worked out for him at all.

His first two runs this time in were promising enough before being left with too much to do at Bendigo and then being asked to do too much too soon at Flemington on Anzac Day.

The porridge was too cold, then the porridge was too hot. If he can get it just right he's good enough to get into the finish in a race like this and $31 undersells his chances a bit.

THE MELBOURNE MAIL

Bet Of The Day: Race 2 #3 Dr Drill @ $5.00

Each Way Play: Race 7 #9 Belgravia @ $31.00
