A drop in grade can see Surprise Bullet kick punters off on the right note at Doomben on Saturday.
Surprise Bullet looks well placed dropping back to class 3 level in the opening race, the Lazy Yak Plate over 1615m.
The four-year-old’s last two outings were in open and class 6 company and both were solid performances when beaten less than three lengths on each occasion.
Before that he had kicked off his campaign with back-to-back wins – one at this course and the other over this distance – so he ticks several boxes for this.
Jockey Dale Smith should be able to secure the perfect run in transit from gate one and with any sort of luck in the straight Surprise Bullet should be hard to hold out.
Smart three-year-old Mishani Hustler is back in winning form and looks a big chance to go back to back in the G.H. Mumm Ruby Jewel Prelude over 1200m.
A stakes winner last season, the colt proved too good when scoring over 1050m at this course last start.
That was his fourth win here from just six visits and he should appreciate returning to 1200m having won four of seven attempts.
As a Listed winner and Group 2 placegetter he is well placed under the set weight conditions and if he runs up to his last-start rating is clearly the one to beat.
