Sydney Specials : Warwick Farm – 09th February 2019

Warwick Farm hosts the inaugural running of the Inglis Millennium meeting on Saturday.

The Inglis Millennium has the potential to reshape the autumn 2YO calendar with the $2million purse a massive dangling carrot early in the carnival.

Don’t be surprised to see it even become a target race for Inglis purchased two-year-olds with connections then running with the ‘whatever comes this autumn after the Millenium is a bonus’ angle.

The inaugural Inglis Millennium could boast one such juvenile in the form of Accession.

Accession has produced sharp improvement with each career outing to date and is a colt clearly heading in the right direction.

The son of Brazen Beau ran second to Athiri on debut who herself could take some beating in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

He has since moved out of her shadow with consecutive wins at Randwick and Rosehill, the latest over 1100m at Rosehill on January 19 was particularly impressive.

That latest success sees the Star Thoroughbreds-raced colt sitting well clear of his nearest rival who is current favourite Dawn Passage based on last start ratings.

It is shaping as something of a match race between the two colts however off last start ratings and with additional experience, Accession gets the nod.

Accession’s stablemate Matowi profiles as an excellent each way play in the final event on the card, the TAB Handicap Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m).

The son of Ocean Park has improved with each run this campaign and last start won over 1550m at Canterbury.

He produced that success on a four day turnaround after a two length fifth behind Vegadaze who has since come out and won again.

Even form from his first up success appears strong with Schnapps and Plenty having since won.

Matowi showed good promise through his maiden prep earlier this season, holding his own against the likes of subsequent Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven and Stan Fox Stakes winner Tarka.

On Saturday, Matowi carries no weight and is drawn to get a cosy run on the fence.

The three-year-old should be somewhere around his peak fourth run from a spell and can continue his progression through the grades at an each way quote.
