Best From The West - November 17

The Jim Taylor trained Spillinova really caught the eye first up and appears well placed to break through in the sixth event at Ascot on Saturday.

Forced to go back from the wide draw, Spillinova was a key sectional star when finishing a close fourth behind the talented Pearls And Prawns.

Marked just shy of his peak, it was a cracking return and he is sure to appreciate the step up to 1400m on Saturday.

From the middle draw, he is also expected to be a lot more prominent, having led throughout at his past two victories.

Only relatively lightly raced, Spillinova looks to have more to come and he has won second up previously.

The Adam Durrant trained Royal Command is the current favourite in early markets, however happy to take him on, given he is likely to get a long way back from the draw.

Conversely Spillinova is expected to be right on-speed in a race that doesn’t look to have a lot of pace.

Jockey Jason Brown continues his association with the four-year-old and if able to continue his upward spiral, he should prove very hard to beat.

The Team Williams trained Action has been rock solid in both starts to begin this preparation and now appears set to peak racing third up.

While no match for his stablemate Galaxy Star last start, he beat the rest home comfortably and was a key sectional mark up.

No doubt he will relish the step up to 1500m and rates clear on best form.

The wide draw is some concern, as he is likely to get back, however with clear air on straightening, he should be too strong late.
