Sydney Specials: Randwick – August 5

A multiple Group 1 winner resuming on Saturday at Randwick highlights spring is on its way in Sydney.

Le Romain
Le Romain Picture: Racing and Sports

Le Romain commences his spring campaign in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) and is the class runner of the field by a substantial margin.

The son of Hard Spun resumes after an autumn campaign where he won the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at this course before running second to Winx in the George Ryder Stakes and then a slender second to Tivaci in the All Aged Stakes (1400m).

He has an excellent record first up, at the course and the distance and adept on all going.

Kris Lees’ stable star is pitchforked into the contest under Weight For Age conditions, meeting his rivals substantially better at the weights than would be the case if facing them under handicap conditions.

Lees has placed Le Romain perfectly and expect him to capitalise first up.

In the final event of the day, Argent D’Or shapes as a strong each way play.

The gelding has been excellent so far this campaign, settling back and running on nicely in each of his three runs.

His latest outing returned a win at this course and distance a fortnight ago where Argent D’Or defeated a rival he faces again here in Spending To Win.

Second up, Argent D’Or ran fifth behind Kings Of Leon at Warwick Farm.

He now meets Kings Of Leon 3kg better at the weights.

It has since proven to be a strong form reference with Kings Of Leon winning at Randwick and Spending To Win fighting out the finish with Argent D’Or last start.

Seventh placegetter Suspenders won at Rosehill last weekend while ninth placegetter Launch Code was a dominant last start Wyong winner and is presently second favourite for the eighth event behind Tango Rain.

The son of Sebring is proven at the course, distance and on rain affected ground having wrapped up his last campaign with a win at Canterbury on a Heavy 8 surface.

Kerrin McEvoy will settle the four-year-old back in the field and with solid early speed anticipated, watch for the pair closing strongly into calculations late.
