Winter Finals Day at Flemington is one of the best betting cards of the year away from the carnivals and 2016 Winter Finals Day looks no exception.
The Victorian Sprint Final is the fifth race on the Flemington card and it puts the Darren Weir-trained Voodoo Lad up against the form of the key lead-up won by Odyssey Moon at Flemington a fortnight back.
Reldas and Alberto Magic are the two best performed horses in the race but both were no better than fair behind Odyssey Moon where the emerging Ruettiger was the best of those that push on to the Final.
He's a threat on the strength of that performance but early markets prefer Voodoo Lad and so do we at The Melbourne Mail.
He certainly had the run of things at the Valley when seeing off a good horse and subsequent winner in Duke Of Brunswick last time but he was strong in a race where the field was smashed up - the big spread of margins showing that this was a true test.
The form has worked out as expected and it can continue to do so through Voodoo Lad who we think represents a genuine even money hope at Flemington on Saturday.
The day's feature, the Winter Championship Final, is a terrific betting heat and a perfect place to find an each way play for the week.
After staring at Kenjorwood for some time we will settle on Iggimacool as our each way play - currently trading around $7.50 - Check out TopBetta markets for tomorrow here
Iggimacool steps up in class from the mares race that she contested last time but she showed that she is back to her best with a win where she produced a strong close to power away from lesser rivals.
The run was a perfect springboard run going to the mile which is her ideal trip. She's well set up to produce her best which saw her beating the likes of He Or She last campaign. She's up to the task.
