Sydney Specials: Randwick – January 16

Events over the Mile bookend the nine race program at Randwick on Saturday.

While the complexion of each race is vastly different, both offer up a couple of appealing wagering prospects.

Top open proceedings, Medcaut can continue on his winning ways in the Global Independent QC & Inspection Maroubra Mile.

The gelding has been excellent in his past two outings at this course, winning both of them with the latest coming at the class and distance.

Medcaut rises in the weights on that outing however strikes a race three weeks later which arguably doesn’t possess the same level of depth.

The son of Commands faces just five rivals on Saturday, two of which he accounted for last start.

He is yet to run out of the money at this course and has finished out of the money over this distance range just once in eight prior attempts.

The John O’Shea-trained five-year-old possesses a 50% strike winning strike rate at each of these factors.

His $3.40 quote as of Friday morning appears generous and an excellent way to kick of a day at Randwick.

In the final event of the day, Frank Who has appeal at his each way quote in the National Farmers Federation Handicap (1600m).

The Chris Waller-trained Another Cocktail is the favourite in the event and understandably so considering how he caught the eye weaving through the field at his Australian debut at this course and distance.

Another Cocktail finished third on that occasion, narrowly beating our each way play of the afternoon, Frank Who.

While Frank Who wasn’t as impressive as Another Cocktail late, it is understandable considering the amount of work the son of Zabeel was forced to do early from an awkward draw.

After a less than ideal run in transit early on, Frank Who continued fighting right to the line.

He now meets Another Cocktail half a kilo better at the weights and the winner Kanji 2kg better at the weights for his slender fourth behind them.

The Zabeel five-year-old will again be prominent on settling from barrier 8 and be tough right to the line.

With continued rainfall across Sydney so far this week, the solid wet track credentials of the Team Hawkes-trained galloper also enhance his claims.

As a side note, the Racing And Sports Team will all be having a bash at the big dollars on offer in the TopBetta Betting Tournaments this weekend so join up, and take us on.
