Best From The West - August 22

It's a disappointing program at Belmont with very small fields all day. There's a Listed race, the Idyllic Prince Stks, but it too has only seven runners.

It’s a tough day also on the track and just playing a couple each way at odds.

Our first pick is Sandpipers from the Fred Kersley yard in Race 7.

This gelding has been really hitting the line well from racing on the speed over the mile. His last two wins have been on rain affected ground and the surface at Belmont will have the sting out of it.

It is now time to step him up to the middle distance and given his breeding he is ready for that.

There are certainly no stars in this race and he gets his chance again. Reckon he might shorten from the current quote too.

For the other value runner, the previous race sees Travellin' bring in back to back wins to another 1000m contest.

He’s stepped up each time and now while chasing a harder grade of race, gets the appropriate drop in weight.

He’ll look to track the speed into the corner and then let go again. Should stay good value.
