Talented horseman Danny Williams is more than happy to have Faverock back in his Goulburn stables.
It amounts to a full circle for the six-year-old gelding who began his career with Williams before stints with two other trainers.
“It’s nice to have him back,” Williams said. “As a young horse he showed so much ability but he was a bit of an enigma.
“As he’s got older he’s started to put it all together.”
Faverock lines up tomorrow in the Goulburn Rendering Benchmark 55 Hcp (1200m).
The son of Falvelon will be attempting a hat trick of wins and keep his winning record in tact since returning to the Williams fold.
“We’ve learned a few secrets about him,” Williams said. “You’ve got to give him his space. He’s a good athletic type of horse but when you work him he tends to sulk for a few days. He’s funny like that.
“He’s a horse that doesn’t like a lot of change to his routine.
“It’s just a matter of keeping him happy.”
Faverock resumed for Williams following a 173-day spell with a hard charging win in a 1000m Benchmark 60 handicap at Canberra on November 16 then repeated the effort in the same grade over 1200m at Goulburn on November 23. Jay Ford was aboard in both wins.
On both occasions Faverock was allowed to settle midfield before running on strongly at the right end.
The gelding drops in grade on Tuesday but rises to 60.5kg.
Weight however, doesn’t faze Williams.
“He’s a big strong horse. The weight won’t worry him,” Williams said. “He’s not a claiming horse. He’s got too many tricks up his sleeve. He needs a senior rider that can read him.
“While I don’t do much with him, he’s pulled up very well from his last start.
“He’s jumping out of his skin.”
