Talented mare Miss Rose De Lago appears set to peak third up when contesting the Group 3 Northerly Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
Though below her best in both performances this time in, this race has always been her target and expect leading trainer Simon Miller to have her cherry ripe.
The step up in trip appears ideal and the quick back up also reads well for her chances.The only other time Miss Rose De Lago was seen on a seven-day back up was in the high-rating W.A. Guineas, when finishing second behind subsequent Group 1 winner Ihtsahymn.
In four starts at Ascot she has placed on three occasions and her career best form does see her well placed at the weights.Though no knock on her rivals, just feel there is a real sense of timing about her preparation and if able to return a career peak performance, she sets a lofty standard.
Currently installed a 5-1 chance appears more than fair as we have her installed the 5-2 favourite.At her last start Peter Knuckey attempted to cuddle Miss Rose De Lago as long as possible, but we predict a different scenario on Saturday.
From the middle draw, Knuckey is expected to roll forward and release the brakes on Miss Rose De Lago and take full advantage of her fitness edge — seven of the 15 acceptors are first up on the weekend.We expect her to set a strong tempo out in front and prove very hard to catch in the straight.
Earlier in the day, the Chris Gangemi trained Windswept appears very well placed to make a winning return in the second event.His sole performance at Belmont last time in was very good when only narrowly beaten and he is open to further improvement on career best form.
The blinkers go back on and he has placed in two of four attempts fresh.From the good draw he should roll forward and settle just off the speed.
