Best From The West

The Adam Durrant trained Son Of Something is very well placed to notch up a hat-trick of wins on Saturday and shapes up as the best bet of the day at Ascot.

While on trial at the trip he has given all the right indications that it will suit and more notably is bred to have no concerns with the step up in trip.

The Durrant stable is on fire this season striking at 25% and more notably is striking at 40% with horses racing over 2000m and beyond.

It is on that fact alone that we have no concerns with Son Of Something stepping up 700m on Saturday as Durrant has clearly found the knack of getting his stayers right and he is clearly a galloper heading in the right direction.

On ratings he sits four pounds clear of his nearest rival and that's not factoring in the likelihood that he is expected raise the bar again on Saturday.

The in-form William Pike sticks aboard and is yet to be beaten on the four-year-old and is currently striking at 67% for the Durrant stable.

Currently installed an even money shot seems more than a fair gamble as we have him rated closer to $1.70 and expect him to start a lot shorter on Saturday.

From the good draw Son of Something should find a nice spot just off midfield and prove too good for his rivals in the run home.

The Sharon Miller trained Sireeze has proven a real model of consistency this time in and appears well placed to break back into the winner's stall on Friday.

Having been only narrowly beaten over 1400m last start the step up to the mile appears to play well into his hands and appears very well treated at the weights following Chris Parnham's two kilogram claim.

The Adam Durrant trained Sail Maker has been installed the early favourite for the event but happy to stick with Sireeze as he does rate clear of the latter on weight adjusted ratings and hence appears a far more lucrative betting option at 2-1.

The Bob Turrell trained Terkel proved quite impressive saluting here last weekend but does appear a worthy risk on Saturday as he lines up against a number of capable types.

On ratings he overall sits fifth and hence will have to raise the bar again if he is to prove successful on Saturday.

Thus the prospect of taking 5-2 about him seems well under the odds and we are more than happy to work around him in the last with the likes of War Prince, Sovereign Debt, Park Lane, It's A Merc, Brave Prince and Go Ken all solid winning hopes.
