Red Magnet backs up quickly at Morphettville on Saturday and looks hard to go past on the back of a solid run in Group 3 company at Moonee Valley.
The three-year-old gelding kicked off the preparation in good order with two dominant wins and despite being well backed was only 3.6L away from Thermal Current in the Phonewords Stakes.
Red Magnet goes up in the weights on the back of that run but apprentice jockey Jake Toeroek goes on board and claims 3kg which brings the weight down to 56kgs.
From barrier 9, expecting Red to Push forward and settle up on the speed and he will take plenty of running down against these.
Earlier in the day, Natural Disaster drops back in grade after a solid enough effort when resuming in listed company last start and she will certainly take plenty from the run.
The five-year-old mare rates well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings and expect her to settle closer today than she did last start after she was inconvenienced at the start.
The current price of $7.50 in a small field looks very good for a horse dropping back in class, with the in form Potiche the one she has to get passed.
Potiche has won her last two starts and despite stepping up in weight gets a 2kg claim but still has a bit to find on last starts effort to beat the likes of Natural Disaster coming off listed form.
Little Akie was good in the Listed Murray Bridge Cup last start when third behind Pelicano but goes up some 4.5kg on that effort and will need to improve again.
The six-year-old gelding has a solid career record but is yet to win over the 2000m trip and comes up against a couple of handy runners down in the weights.
St Gabriel is coming into the race off two wins and with only 54kg to carry will prove very hard to beat.
The current price of $3.80 looks a bit short for Little Akie and I am happy to take him on at that price.
