Saturday's greyhound tips at Hove and Oxford

AS promised, the canine action really does hot up post-English Greyhound Derby and tonight is as good an example as any.

Two days on from the start of the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat and Arc Angel of The North at Newcastle on Thursday, the open-race bandwagon steamrolls into Hove for the start of both the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency and Coral Sussex Cup, and arrives at Oxford with a bang given it's also the heats of the BetGoodwin Pall Mall.

Starting at Hove and great to see defending Sussex Cup champion Candolim Monsoon back after injury and he should go well in his heat, albeit a midfield draw is not ideal.

The appearance of Greyhound of the Year Droopys Clue also catches the eye and his clash with Coronation Cup winner New Destiny could prove the race of the night. Both are in tip-top form and look possible outright winners of the Cat One competition, while the Romeo Command comeback story remains one of the best in the sport just now.

The Regency entry is also strong and big-race winner Queen Georgia looks good in her heat tonight against Savana Heross, while the continuing return of Lively Lauren is another boost for the six-bend annual, worth £20,000 to the winner again this year.

So to the best bets at Hove and we're kicking off with the Mark Wallis-trained Ballymac Taylor (6.26) in heat two of the Regency. She was a brilliant winner of the Dorando Marathon on Derby final night but handles the step down in distance if coming away as she has lately. Note some excellent efforts over 712m at Towcester.

Paul Young's Bubbly Scorcher (6.42) catches the eye in the very next heat. The Romford raider had a really good battle with Ballymac Taylor at Towcester recently and wasn't disgraced behind the brilliant Barntick Bear on Derby final night. Scorcher's draw in the red jacket looks good for her chances, with the kennel in good form just now.

Best in the Sussex Cup could prove to be June Harvey's Ower Mystery (8.41) in heat four given his early pace could lay the foundations for success with the longer run to the bend suiting, while the Wallis-trained Newinn Syd (9.17) looks set for a confidence-boosting success as drawn in heat six at a track he has excelled at in the past.

Over at Oxford, the BetGoodwin Pall Mall really has attracted a great entry with some real speedsters going for gold in the famous competition over 450m.

Best at the Cowley venue might be Richie Taberner's Aero Sacundai (7.51) in heat two after his Derby final night success and rapid-fire win over tonight's C&D last week. The draw inside chief rival Cooliogold helps potentially, while Liz McNair's King Capaldi (8.09) gets the vote over Oxford Puppy Collar winer Long Fellow in their heat three clash.
