Breege (5-1) ended a long losing run stretching back over two years when she was successful in the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes on Derby Day.

The Chasemore Farm homebred daughter of Starspangledbanner made a winning debut at Wetherby in May 2022 and despite numerous efforts in defeat subsequently, had not managed to get her head in front.

Always prominent under Jason Hart, Breege quickened up nicely entering the final furlong before showing a tenacious attitude to fend off the fast-finishing Chic Colombine to score by a neck.

John Quinn, joint trainer of the winner alongside his son Sean, said: "She's a filly who was running at the highest-level last year and was placed at Royal Ascot and was just caught at Glorious Goodwood."

He added: "She ran well all year and then ran really well again at Goodwood on her comeback, beaten two short heads. Then people think 'well does she not want to win', but we thought she was just unlucky really and today she was really gritty. She battled well and got her head in front, and it's wonderful to win a race named after the late and great Queen, may she rest in peace, at this wonderful track.

A return to Royal Ascot looks on the cards for the well-bred filly, with her handler going on to say: "So long as she's okay she'll go to Royal Ascot for the Group 2 fillies' race, the Duke Of Cambridge. Her mother Wowcha and The Wow Signal were brother and sister, and he was the best two-year-old that we've had. Wowcha was good, and she was genuine, but when this filly came as a yearling she looked like a real racehorse.
