Man Utd vs Crystal Palace tips: Eagles to frustrate Red Devils at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Crystal Palace will face off in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, just a few days before their Premier League meeting.

Manchester United are playing for the first time in this season's competition, while Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace came from behind to beat Plymouth Argyle in the first round.

Despite winning the competition last season, United trailed 2-1 to Aston Villa as late as the 67th minute before turning the game around to avoid successive second-round exits.

Palace are likely to play without fear on Tuesday and they’ll do so against a much-changed home side that could field the unfamiliar partnership of Hannibal Mejbri and Sofyan Amrabat.

The Eagles have not defeated a Premier League team in this competition since beating relegated West Brom 3-0 in 2018.

Carabao Cup success against top teams has eluded them, with their last victories coming against Manchester United in extra time in 2011 and Charlton Athletic in 2004.

Erik Ten Hag’s team has only lost twice in their previous 27 home matches, against Manchester City and West Ham, but they have drawn seven times in that run.

Palace will certainly set up to frustrate on Tuesday and concede a lot of territory, and it may just pay dividends if United’s new look and threadbare line-up fail to find a rhythm.

One strategy in such a scenario is to back the hosts to continue their corner dominance. They’ve averaged nine per match at Old Trafford, while Palace are conceding close to six.

They’re sure to come under sustained periods of pressure so the odds about United bagging six or more corners look like a nice little side bet.
