Cotton is hoping for a change in luck

Broadmarsh trainer Sarah Cotton will take three horses to Hobart on Sunday afternoon and expects her two runners to perform well.

Sarah Cotton will be there aboard Mister John for regular clerk of the course duties, but she will also saddle up two runners on the nine-race card.

Eight-year-old gelding Dark Wanderer goes into the $45,000 It's Why We Race Open Handicap over 1600m, after a third in Hobart over 1200m when resuming before a mid-field finish in Launceston three weeks ago.

"His first run, he ran huge. He probably found the front a bit too soon and was found looking for them.

"Last start, it was a very hard run in transit, he sat last, which he has never done in his life, and he went wide down the side.

"He never stopped coming. It was a very tough run and a hard watch that day," said Cotton.

"We expect him to go well, we saw this race, but we weren't committed till we saw how he pulled up.

"He took a week after the last run (to bounce back), but he is bouncing out of his skin now, and I couldn't be happier with him heading into Sunday's race," added Cotton.

The winner of eight races has met many of his rivals in the past, mostly in weight for age races.

"He just isn't quite a weight-for-age horse, but back in the open handicaps, he is a bit easier in the weights.

"He is a competitive horse that is always there.

Talented mare Fairy Magic lines up earlier in the Winning Edge Presentations BM76 program over 1100m.

The mare is unbeaten in two second-up efforts in the past.

The five-year-old daughter of Rich Enough finished fourth last start in Launceston after resuming from a fifth placing at Moonee Valley in late February.

"She was extremely unlucky. Siggy (Carr) said she would have won if she got out at the top of the straight.

"It was her first time taking a sit, and she coped with that really well, but it was a hard watch when she had nowhere to go, and when she got out, she made up a heap of late ground," said Cotton

Acknowledging the rise in class, Cotton is looking forward to the weight relief from the mare's first-up effort.

"She drops to 54kg from the 60.5kg last start, which is exciting.

"Since her trip to Melbourne, she has returned a bigger and stronger mare, and she probably needed the run to pull a bit of pudding off her.

"But she is more mentally matured this time in, and it looks like she can stretch out to the 12 and 1400m at some stage which is exciting for us.

"She may have one more run after this and then go to the paddock and have a freshen-up, we were toying with the idea of going back to Melbourne, but I wanted to keep Siggy on her again as she was keen to ride her again, and she is a slightly quirky mare," the trainer explained.

Sunday's card commences at 11:20am and will be televised on Sky Racing 1 and TasracingTV, with Peter Staples to host the coverage.

Rebel Factor heads to The Valley

The Team Wells trainer Rebel Factor will make his Victorian debut at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The winner of seven of his 11 starts will contest a BM 100 event over 1000m.

Connections have booked Carleen Hefel for the ride, with the gelding going into the race first up on the back of a Devonport trial win on 25 July, where he recorded in a time of 1m 0.7s for the 1009m trip.

At the time of writing he is a $17 chance in early markets.
