Soul Choice has bright future in staying ranks.
Talented three-year-old filly Soul Choice ended her Tasmanian campaign the best way possible with a resounding win in the Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Oaks over 2100 metres in Launceston on Sunday.
With replacement jockey Zac Spain aboard due to the filly's regular rider Jordan Childes being suspended, Soul Choice assumed her normal role of race leader but when the opposition started to close ranks nearing the home turn it looked for a fleeting moment that the $1.35 favourite might be in a bit of trouble.
But good horses find ways to win and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly dug deep and shrugged off the challenges and went on to defeat Hoops ($27) by almost a length with another outsider Sirius Princess ($26) a distant third.
Soul Choice won the Strutt Stakes leading up to the Tasmanian Oaks to give the filly a clean sweep of the Listed three-year-old fillies' events during the 2023 Tasmanian carnival.
Stable representative Bec Shanks said it was a nail-biting final 400 metres compared to the effortless win in the Stutt Stakes.
"I wasn't sure how she would handle the pressure that was applied over the final 600 metres but she did what she has always done and fought on courageously," Shanks said.
"She has done a wonderful job for her owners coming to Tasmania to run second in the Launceston Guineas and give eventual Tasmanian Derby winner Dunkel a run for his money and of course we couldn't be happier with her efforts to win the last two Listed events.
"She has earned her Black Type wins and now she will go home to Melbourne for a well-earned rest."
