Weather to suit Inundation at Sandown

Cooler weather at Sandown is expected to bring out the best of Inundation.

One thing trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr won't have to worry about is hot weather ahead of Inundation returning to Sandown on Saturday.

The hot weather was blamed for Inundation's downfall when beaten as the $1.40 favourite over 1000m at Sandown on January 7.

Four weeks later, Inundation runs over the same course and distance in The McCafe Handicap

Prior to that defeat at Sandown, when beaten three-quarters-of-a-length, Inundation had run a track record when resuming at Moonee Valley over 1000m on December 24.

While the weather was hot at Sandown that day, there will be a totally different weather conditions on Saturday with early showers forecast and a top temperature expected of 20 degrees.

"He had a really bad day in the heat at Sandown," Price told RSN.

"Jamie Kah said after the line, that she nearly got off him to bring him back.

"I wasn't there that day, but they tell me there was a bit of a kerfuffle taking bloods as they were lined up in the heat.

"It was one thing after another."

Price also indicated where his horses are stabled in the tie-up stalls at Sandown, they do not have demisters which when working help reduce heat.

Following the Sandown episode, Inundation was floated down to Monomeith Stud, not far from Price and Kent Jnr's Cranbourne stable for a week's relaxation to get over his heat stress.

Inundation will chase his fifth win from eight starts on Saturday and Price believes Saturday's contest is a 'lovely' race for the sprinter.

"The weather is good, the horse is good, and I would be disappointed if he doesn't win," Price said.

"I've got no excuses for the horse. He's fit, he's well, he's sound."

Inundation was posted the $1.80 favourite on Friday.
