WARWICK FARM June 24

Inside Grass; Soft 6

13 Heats – 2 x 1208m (2 Open); 3 x 804m (2 Open; 1 3YO); 3 x 801m (3 2YO); 3 x 798m (3 2YO); 2 x 795m (2 Maiden)

Local trainer Gary Nickson would have slept well after producing three smart winners with definite winter prospects.

Nickson is known for winning races with sharp speedsters and he has three likely types in his heat winners MANDALONG ROMAN, ONE DESTINY and FELIX MAJESTIC.

All three were ridden in similar style by Kathy O'Hara, bouncing to the front and skipping along at good speed before slipping their rivals on the turn. They won by dominant margins and put time on the clock by setting the time standards over their respective distances.

MANDALONG ROMAN, a winner of three of his 15 starts up to 1200m, won the fastest 804m heat (48.21; 34.79) by more than five lengths in his first trial appearance since January.

ONE DESTINY is a 2YO gelding by Super One. He was placed once in five starts earlier in the season where he showed nothing like the pace he displayed to win his 801m heat in fast time (47.06; 34.15).

The unraced youngster FELIX MAJESTIC is a robust gelding by Smart Missile and should take plenty of benefit from his first trial since February. He was ridden along from the 200m to extend his winning margin to 3.5 lengths in the fastest of the three heats over 798m (47.27; 34.32).

Fellow Warwick Farm trainer Matt Smith also won three trials with the most notable being a strong performance by the unraced 3YO gelding GOLDEN FIGHTER in the quicker of two maiden heats over 795m (47.62; 34.78).

He has now won three of his four trials spread over 14 months, an obvious sign that he has had issues. However his ability is obvious with William Pike giving him an easy time as he extended nicely in the last 100m for a narrow win after sitting outside the leader.

Smith also won trials with hardy stayer ATTORNEY taking the fastest of the two 1208m heats (75.75; 35.79) and a 2YO heat over 798m with the unraced BUENOS NACHOS (47.92; 34.45).

NOTED TRIALS
