2018 CHEVELEY PARK STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for two year old fillies at Newmarket conducted by the Jockey Club.

The Cheveley Park Stakes is run over six furlongs. It was first run in 1899 and was won by Lutetia.

2017 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes - Clemmie

It is the first of the juvenile Group 1s of the season along with the Middle Park Stakes for the colts on the same day.

Run down the Rowley Mile straight course on the last day of the Cambridgeshire meeting, it is named after the estate under that name which is also a famous stud.

Best of the recent winners was probably the dual Guineas winning French filly Special Duty but the best overall would be the great Pretty Polly who was a Triple Crown winner plus numerous open class wins as an older mare.

Leading trainer is Alec Taylor and Criquette Head-Maarek with four victories. Most wins as a jockey is by Sir Gordon Richards with nine.

The Cheveley Park Stakes is worth £275,000 in 2018.
