Betting Wrap - Saturday October 8

It was a big day for punters at Caulfield on Saturday with several well-backed runners saluting on Guineas Day.

Chetwood went out as one of the best backed runners with the TAB on the Caulfield program and did the right thing by punters.

Backed from $2.60 during the week and crunched into $1.95, Chetwood held nearly 60 percent of all bets and was heavily leveraged in multis.

Rageese was the only one seriously tried to beat the favourite but it drifted out from $4.40 to $6. It held just a fifth of what the winner did.

BETS: Chetwood $7,500 @ $1.85, $4,000 @ $1.95, $4,000 @ $1.90

Sheidel.

Sheidel ($3.70-$2.75) was the second consecutive winner to give the TAB a belting after the mare was backed as if unbeatable.

After sitting outside the leader she was too strong for Silent Sedition ($13-$11) and A Lotta Love ($26-$61) which stormed home from back in the pack.

Secret Agenda ($4.60-$5.50) and Ameristralia ($4.60-$6.50) were the others that attracted money along with Ravi ($8).

BETS: Sheidel $8,400 @ $3, $4,000 @ $3.70

Winx.

As expected champion mare Winx saluted despite drifting in betting.

When final field betting was under way, $1.15 was on offer but by the time the race rolled around TAB customers secured $1.24.

She held the most money of all runners on the entire Caulfield card and dominated the Caulfield Stakes market, holding 83 percent of all monies on the race.

Black Heart Bart ($4.80) did have some support but held only a fraction of what the winner did.

BETS: Winx $36,467 @ $1.20, $10,000 @ $1.22

Global Glamour.

The big push for Global Glamour paid the ultimate dividends in the Thousand Guineas.

With $6 on offer when the final field was announced, TAB customers kept specking the Waterhouse-Bott runner throughout the week which eventually saw her wrest favouritism off Foxplay momentarily.

In the end the pair went out equal $4.40 picks.

Leading throughout, Global Glamour beat I Am A Star ($18-$23) which made a strong challenge up the straight along with Whispering Brook ($11-$9) which had good money come late.

La Luna Rossa ($17-$10) had good backing through the week and into today while Missrock ($12-$9.50) was also a significant mover.

BETS: Global Glamour $15,000 @ $4.40

Divine Prophet/

Divine Prophet, which raced three-back the inside, defied a huge betting drift to take out the Caulfield Guineas.

TAB installed the son of Choisir as $4.80 second pick on Tuesday, however, at the start of today it was at $5.50.

Punters continued to back favourite Impending ($4.50-$4.20-$3.50) and Sacred Elixir ($6.50-$4.80-$6.50) which saw the price of Divine Prophet get out to $7.

Easily the third best backed runner in the race, Divine Prophet held just a third of the money than Impending did.

Seaburge ($18-$31) flashed home from the back to get second while Hey Doc ($11), which had good each way money for it throughout the day, was third after being wide over the latter stages.

BETS: Impending $18,500 @ $3.70

BETS: Sacred Elixir $5,000 @ $6

BETS: Divine Prophet $3,000 @ $6

He's Our Rokkii.

He’s Our Rokkii's victory continued the bloodbath for TAB.

Saluting at $2.50 after being as much as $4 earlier in the week, the liability to TAB after the win topped the seven-figure mark.

He's Our Rokkii was still $2.80 earlier today and overall he held close to 60 percent of the money in the Toorak Handicap.

Jockey Dwayne Dunn was in a bit of trouble on the home turn as he fought to find an opening but once he did, the horse did the rest.

Great Esteem, which led and gave a great kick, was $41 into $26 at one stage before jumping at $31.

Royal Rapture ($8.50-$12) was very popular as was Counterattack who was crunched from $8 into $5.50 at the death.

BETS: He’s Our Rokkii $9,000 @ $2.50, $5,000 @ $2.60, $5,000 @ $2.50

Star Turn wound up a fantastic day for punters by easily winning the final event despite sitting three-wide.

Opening the day a $2.40 favourite, TAB customers kept smashing it throughout the afternoon which saw it bottom out at $1.95 with nothing else seriously backed to beat it.

Overall, Star Turn held 48 percent of the total investment. His win, like He’s Our Rokkii in the previous event, cost TAB a seven-figure payout when factoring in multis.

Fell Swoop ($6-$6.50) and Furnaces ($14-$15) were the only ones that had decent money on them to beat the favourite but even then, combined their totals weren’t even half of what the winner held.

BETS: Star Turn $7,000 @ $2.40, $8,000 @ $1.95, $5,000 @ $2, $4,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES
