From The Stewards’ Room – August 13

Racing and Sports have scanned the stewards’ reports to find the key information punters need to know from Australian racing on Saturday August 13.

Rosehill:

Sense And Reason (Race 1): briefly tightened by Tree Of Jesse near the 1100m. The mare, which was inclined to overrace, was steadied away from the heels of Extensible rounding the first turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood present in the nearside nostril of the mare. Trainer Mr R Price was advised that Sense And Reason would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to racing again.

Tree Of Jesse (Race 1): rider G Schofield stated that, as notified to the Stewards pre-race, he was given the option of being more forward if circumstances permitted. He added, after being caught wide in the early stages, he initially was of the view that Sense And Reason, which was positioned to his inside, would come back and afford him a position midfield with cover, however when Sense And Reason held its position he elected to ride forward. He said when Anyaas did not shift to the fence as he had anticipated, he was then obliged to travel three wide without cover throughout the event. G Schofield further stated that Tree Of Jesse was inclined to lay in making the home turn and in the early part of the straight, but in the circumstances its run was fair. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Billy Bent Ear (Race 2): near the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of Show And Tell (App. D Panya), which shifted in when not quite clear. App. Panya was advised to ensure she is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Over the concluding stages was inconvenienced when crowded between Frisky Terror and Tibidabo, which shifted out. As a consequence Billy Bent Ear was not ridden out to the finish.

Doukhan (Race 3): slow to begin. Shortly after the start blundered, became unbalanced and lost ground. A short distance later Doukhan struck the heels of Magical Stance and blundered again. Rider B Shinn (More Than Fabulous) was reprimanded for shifting in near the 1800m and as a consequence Doukhan was steadied and taken in towards the heels of Doc Holliday and having to be steadied and further that he continued to place pressure on Doukhan in the early stages, resulting in that runner racing unnecessarily tight to the inside of More Than Fabulous. Rider B Avdulla stated, after striking interference in the early stages of the event and then racing tight for some distance approaching the first turn, he elected to shift to a three wide position to provide his mount with some racing room. He added his mount travelled comfortably throughout the middle stages, but from the 800m was under pressure and gave ground noticeably. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer Mr K Lees was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Doukhan trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.

Magical Stance (Race 3): rounding the first turn commenced to overrace. When questioned regarding the performance, App. A Adkins stated in a moderately run event his mount was inclined to overrace throughout the early and middle stages and when the pace quickened was left flat-footed. He added Magical Stance was inclined to lay in rounding the home turn and in the straight, but in his view was still somewhat disappointing.

Mr Darci (Race 4): slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up for clear running until near the 200m.

Lanciato (Race 4): held up for clear running until the 200m.

Game Pie (Race 4): held up for clear running until near the 200m.

Aurora Glow (Race 4): held up for clear running until near the 150m. Then was awkwardly placed on the heels of Lanciato inside the 100m and could not be fully tested.

Royal Jackpot (Race 4): rider T Berry reported on return to scale the gelding had its tongue over the bit and was making an abnormal respiratory noise over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Capitalist (Race 5): rider B Shinn stated that his mount travelled well in behind the eventual winner, Star Turn, and after initially responding to his riding when placed under pressure in the early part of the straight appeared to labour under its weight of 60 kilograms. He said he rode Capitalist on the Kensington track on Tuesday morning, which was pleasing work and he was confident of the colt's chances in today's race. He said however that the colt became unbalanced when under pressure in the straight on a number of occasions and he attributed this to the soft conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden stated that Capitalist had pleased the stable leading into today's race and he agreed with the assessment of B Shinn that the colt was not comfortable on today's soft track conditions, particularly as it had to give weight to a number of other runners in the race. Mr Snowden undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of Capitalist subsequent to the race.

Sacred Master (Race 6): crowded for room near the 150m between Danjeu and Sofin (App. A Adkins), which shifted out. App. Adkins was reprimanded and advised that he must stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion and, furthermore he would be expected to make more effort to give back to runners the room to which they are entitled. Rider R Hutchings stated that, after striking interference on the first turn, his mount then raced keenly throughout the event and when placed under pressure in the straight was inclined to hang in and proved difficult to ride. He added the gelding was also unsuited by the moderate early tempo. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had aggravated a speedy cut to the off-hind fetlock. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth agreed with the assessment of R Hutchings and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of Sacred Master subsequent to the race.

Ruling Dynasty (Race 7): when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider G Schofield stated the horse, which was coming back in distance today, which he attributed to its testing first up run. He added that in his view Ruling Dynasty would be better suited by being stepped up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Cummings stated, after the gelding struck interference near the 1000m, it failed to travel from that point and he agreed with G Schofield that Ruling Dynasty would be better suited by stepping up in distance.

Cosmic Cube (Race 7): when questioned, rider R Hutchings stated his mount, which was racing first up today, was disadvantaged by racing three wide without cover for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding abraded its off-fore bumper.

Kangarilla Joy (Race 7): Bled from both nostrils during the event. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden was advised that the mare will now incur the mandatory 3 month embargo from racing under AR53A.

Snoopy (Race 8): held up until passing the 200m. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight, rider T Berry stated, after following Hidden Warrior in to the straight, he observed that runner to shift off slightly and, although he was aware that there was a run developing between Hidden Warrior and Kangarilla Joy, he was reluctant to improve into that position as he felt he would have placed his mount in an awkward position due to the fact he was racing half a length behind Kangarilla Joy. He added as a consequence he remained racing on the back of Hidden Warrior as he felt that runner would have continued to shift out and present a run to its inside, however when Hidden Warrior shifted out back to the fence he was then held up on the back of that runner for some distance, whereby he was obliged to come to the outside of Kangarilla Joy to obtain clear running inside the 200m. Stewards were satisfied that whilst at the stage T Berry had initially committed to improve to the inside of Hidden Warrior and at this time in their opinion there was only doubtful room to do so, his actions in the circumstances were reasonable.

Caulfield

Gigi Girl (Race 2): got its head up through the early stages when being restrained. Raced three wide without cover from the 700m then weakened in the straight. Rider Ben Thompson reported that his mount was required to work hard in the early stages from the wide draw with the intention to settle closer than he ultimately did and added in his view the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a throat condition and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Leica Day (Race 3): rider Ben Allen received medical attention behind the start and was passed fit to ride which delayed the start several minutes. Ben Allen reported the gelding was not suited by the slow tempo of the event and did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Mossin' Around (Race 4): disappointed for clear running from the 300m until passing the 200m between Cana, which initially shifted in slightly, and Glenbawn Dame which shifted out slightly, resulting in Mossin’ Around then having to be steadied off the heels of Glenbawn Dame near the 200m.

Zanahary (Race 5): rider Kevin Forrester was advised to exercise more care when permitting his mount to shift in near the 900m when not fully clear of Revolving Door which had to be steadied. Weakened in the straight; Kevin Forrester reported his mount raced greenly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Concealer (Race 6): at the request of rider Craig Williams, underwent a veterinary examination behind the start and was passed suitable to race. Raced erratically until rounding the home turn resulting in rider Craig Williams having great difficulty riding the filly. The noseband on the filly became semi-detached during the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have intermittent displacement of the soft palate. Connections were advised the filly must now gain further approval in an official trial prior to racing again.

Mahuta (Race 7): rider Brad Rawiler could offer no explanation for the performance and stated the horse would benefit from the run. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a slower than normal recovery and was lame in the near hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

Girl Guide (Race 8): connections advised would be more forward from the inside gate; slow to begin and settled back in the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed the more to have a displaced soft palate and a slow recovery and connections advised the mare would now be retired.

Gold Symphony (Race 8): rounding the first turn commenced to overrace.
